Job Description Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION: We are
searching for a highly communicative Yard Dog Hostler to be
responsive to the Plant Management Team regarding the movement of
tankers and trailers at the facility to facilitate the needs of the
Manufacturing and Production departments. Yard Dog Driver is
responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand
inventory and positioning. Yard Hostler must be adherent to
prevailing safety codes, have good eyesight, be physically fit, and
communicate effectively. Ultimately, the Yard Hostler should be
able to perform under pressure, have good driving skills, and be
responsible. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible to maintain a
neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency
in servicing the plant needs. Operate Yard Truck in a safe manner
during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded
and empty tankers and trailers. Drive and operate vehicle under 15
mph in and around the plant and storage lot/dock area. Be cognizant
of the reality that the operation is a low mileage severe duty
function requiring, particular, attention to preventive maintenance
checks and services as well as actual scheduled vehicle
maintenance. Must be aware that operations occur on asphalt and
concrete surfaces in a corrosive environment often contaminated
with material subject to embedding in tires. Responsible for
accounting for records involving trailer numbers, gross weights,
and net weights on the scale log sheet to include source and type
of material. Must function and interact on a daily basis with plant
personnel and comply with plant safety requirements. Communicate
using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations,
and plant personnel. Security of valuable commodities and the
storage area itself are a major area of concern for the Yard
Hostler, occasionally requiring guidance from supervisory personnel
regarding disposition. Additional Duties and Tasks may be assigned
by Management. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma. Completion of a
Yard Dog apprenticeship is preferred. Experience staging and
backing trailers. Class A commercial driver's license with Tanker
and HAZMAT endorsements. Ability to perform rudimentary vehicle
maintenance. Top-notch coordination techniques. Excellent verbal
communication skills. A safety-conscious and thorough disposition.
