Job Summary
Uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations
professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of a
small organizational unit with limited scope. Reports to a higher
level administrative operations manager. Performs short- and
long-term planning for the organization. Will supervise 3-5 staff.
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for
obtaining solutions.
Responsible for broad scope of Staff, NFA and Affiliate populations
with HR-related actions and processes. Administers and reviews work
flows for smooth operations as it relates to the department's
administrative functions with emphasis on HR operations for the
non-faculty academics and staff groups. This position is
responsible for planning, developing, implementing, administering,
recruitments, onboarding, renewals, and separation processes in
consultation and collaboration with Human Resources (HR) Shared
Services, CAO, and working closely with the Director of Academic
Affairs. Serves as a key administrative and HR resource for staff,
NFAs, and departmental leadership. This position holds
responsibility for oversight and coordination of any special HR and
Administrative initiatives. The incumbent uses high level of skills
and knowledge of HR policies and programs to address strategic
personnel issues, including contract interpretation, typically
referring grievances, OPHD investigations and other high level
sensitive matters for non-faculty academics and staff to the CAO.
The individual handles all of the above tasks with tact, diplomacy,
professionalism and with utmost confidentiality.
Directly supervises the work of the faculty administrative support
staff and the HR Admin Officer.. Provides oversight and guidance to
ensure a successful collaborative partnership between the academic
department and the operations of the clinical enterprise. Ensures
processes are consistent with policy, and implemented uniformally
across all missions. Makes recommendations for improvements to
streamline activities, maximizing quality, execution and
productivity. Participates in special projects, and strategic
planning through collaboration with senior staff.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional
approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range
is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience
and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement
within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the
collective bargaining agreement.The salary range for this position
is $84,800 - $127,200 (Annual Rate).To learn more about the

Department Description
The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology is one of the leading
ophthalmology departments in clinical care, training, and research
nationwide. The department is one of the largest recipients of
federal grant funds among peer departments, ranked 2nd in overall
National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding in the country.
UCSF's renowned eye care services are located in a state-of-the-art
home, the Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision (WGVCV).
Located at UCSF's Mission Bay Campus, the center houses the Vision
Clinics, where many of UCSF's eye care programs relocated, as well
as research and teaching facilities. Ophthalmology conducts its
patient care, teaching, research, and public service activities
currently at multiple UCSF campuses: Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Veteran's
Administration Medical Center (VAMC), San Francisco General
Hospital (SFGH), East Bay (BOPC) and Benioff Children's Hospital at
Mission Bay and in Oakland. The Department sponsors numerous
invited speakers, research seminars, journal clubs, as well as a
postdoctoral training program focused on mentorship, networking,
and recognition. The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology consists of
approximately 300 full time employees including clinical faculty,
basic scientists, clinical and research trainees, and
administrative staff (including UCSF Health employees).
